Guide for evaluation, impact measurement, and learning capture in food marketing and procurement projects

Between 2020 and 2025, as part of the Local and Integrated Food System in Montreal (SALIM) program, Collectif Récolte supported and evaluated several projects led or co-led by its partners in the Montreal area. These initiatives aimed to transform marketing, procurement and sustainable food practices, while fostering collaboration among stakeholders in the food system.
Through this work, we have learned a great deal about how to measure, understand and promote the changes generated by collective food projects. This has enabled us to identify key indicators for food marketing and procurement projects, as well as for initiatives that aim to develop local, sustainable and solidarity-based food practices.
For several years now, social economy and social innovation projects have been required to demonstrate their impact beyond financial results. Nevertheless, many organizations still struggle to implement frameworks for evaluation, impact measurement and learning capture, as these processes are often perceived as complex and the preserve of experts. The purpose of this guide is therefore to provide simple tools, practical examples and indicators to help organizations measure impact more easily. This resource compiles the insights gained from our activities in recent years and makes them accessible to organizations seeking to better document their impact.
