De la ferme à l’ardoise: Reconnecting with our land

De la ferme à l’ardoise is a Collectif Récolte initiative to highlight and promote practices that enable local food supply chain sourcing for independent restaurants and caterers. From 2019 to 2021, this project allowed us to create a portrait of local food supply chain sourcing practices in Montreal’s territories and municipalities, as well as to develop three thematic fact sheets outlining current local sourcing practices.

Now more than ever, eating locally is a gesture of solidarity. Food citizens have a role to play in supporting the whole ecosystem of players who enrich our culinary culture and strengthen our food resilience.

Overview of the local food supply practices of restaurants in the Montreal Metropolitan Community

For years, geographical, relational and functional proximity has been part of the marketing and supply logic of artisanal producers, restaurateurs and processors. What unites them is the desire to offer customers an authentic, quality experience that celebrates our land.

“What I’m trying to establish is reconnection. Reconnecting with our history, with nature. Make people want to get to know it, love it and protect it.”

Elisabeth Cardin, former co-owner of Manitoba restaurant, involved in the movement

The launch of the portrait was the occasion for a fascinating exchange organized by Collectif Récolte as part of SIAL Canada 2020 between Thibault Renouf of Arrivage, Fernande Ouellet de Rusé comme un canardPascal le Boucher et Catherine Lefebvre, journalist.  Find out more about this round-table discussion right here (in French only)!

This fact sheet explores practices for implementing efficient distribution and supply logistics, adapted to the needs of each stakeholder in the supply chain, from product source to point of consumption.
